I frequently peruse [r/AskAcademia](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskAcademia/) and they always talk about how getting a tenure-track job these days is a pipe dream. They frequently cite some statistic (not sure where it's from) that 2% of graduating PhD's get a tenure-track job. They also say that even when filtered to just STEM fields, this figure is somewhere around 9-10%.
