Measuring 3D object dimensions using Stereo cameras

I'm working on a system which aims to measure object dimensions (not just distance) by creating a ply mesh for it, then measure dimensions using MeshLab.
I got one successful ply (using OpenCV) and now I'm testing to measure object dimension in a plane (I'm using a box looking to the camera, so it is easy to measure width and height in a plane).
