Are there lateral moves in FAANG companies into DS roles?

I work for a Fortune 500 (non-tech) company in an engineering role that is not titled Data Scientist but that would fit the description very well as my attributions are similar to what I see on most DS job postings. On top of that, my role requires me to be a subject matter expert in a specific field. Obviously I feel a bit underappreciated and underpaid (who doesn't?) after doing a little market research on DS salaries.
