Building a basic Virtual AI assistant

I have some background in programming (definitely need more practice) and a basic knowledge in machine learning and deep learning. Nevertheless , assuming for someone who has 0 background what’s the best way to learn and build a basic AI assistant (basic meaning it can speak its results, tell time, weather , and perform basic math)
