Counting gunshots over time

I am a very project driven learner and have for a time been looking for a simple project that I could do, which could get me started down this rabbit hole.

I have finally found something concrete and (hopefully) simple - counting a specific and distinct sound - the sound of a gunshot.

Not matching it with a weapon or anything, just couting the number of shots over a time period, by logging the time of the shot and ideally …
