[D] How does personalization work for semantic search when it is sourced through a thrid party? E.g. Pinecone

There are a few companies offering semantic search api for their customers, I was wondering how is personalization possible in such scenarios? Does the customer have to also push session info to the api to get relevant results back? It might be possible for the customer to re-rank after initial results and match it to the user but I am just interested to learn how personalization can be applied to such a scenario?
