I feel like, compared to NLP (safety/alignments in LLMs, etc.) and CV (text-to-image/video, robotic planning, etc., just name a few), the promise of speech applications seems a bit less exciting.

It seems like its main job is just to transcribe speech to text and let the LLMs do the magic things.
