Gaining basic understanding in Data Engineering

I'm a psychologist turned Data Scientist. As such I'm firm in statistics and have a better understanding in some concepts like research and empirically collecting data than most my peers, but when it comes to Data Engineering I'm absolutely lost.
I value the work our DEs do a lot, and I understand that per se DE is the more foundational job. No Data, no nothing.
