Getting an NLP research related industry role after MSCS/MSCE

People who are working in research related profiles in the industry, what did you do your masters in?

I am planning to join the ms in computer engineering program at NYU. Will it be possible to get applied NLP research engineer kinda roles after that in companies. Does my thesis have any say in achieving that.
