How common are jobs with 3 month notice period?

I'm considering accepting a job with 3-month notice period (after probation), and this seems long. One concern is when applying for new jobs, would you be at a disadvantage if your notice period is a whopping 3 months? It's difficult enough to compete for roles in this tough market, but then you add the fact that you'll not be able to start for 3 months, wouldn't you be at a disadvantage relatively to those who can start sooner?
