How long time does it take to learn basics of data science?

Apologies for the extremely vague title. I am a PhD student in theoretical physics. I am looking to get into quantitative research for which I need to be more agile with data science in Python.

I did a course on python in my undergraduate and know the basics, might even be able to define some classes if I remind myself.
