How valuable is a PhD in science (with applied ML) compared to a PhD in only Machine learning [D]

Is it more advantageous to pursue a PhD in machine learning with a focus on scientific applications for example (Machine learning for drug design) if the end goal is to work in the machine learning industry? Or is a general PhD in machine learning more valuable for this career path?
