Is Econometrics a good route into DS?

I’ve been on a kind of intern scheme rotating across teams like data science, econometrics and data analytics. I’m coming to the end and got offers from econometrics and HR analytics. I liked data science but unfortunately didn’t get a offer but it is an area I’d like to go in as I enjoyed the work involved a lot.
