I'm not a Data scientist but I do have a few questions for you all. I just saw oppenheimer which, no spoilers, simply revolves around the Manhattan project and the creation of nuclear bombs.

Back in the day, weren't data scientists just the physicists and chemists and mathematicians who did their own studies? Or was there a specific role for someone who handles all the data and does something else with it?
