MA in Statistics or MS in Data Science?

I am currently a social science PhD student at a flagship public university. As a graduate student, I can obtain a Master's degree en route to the PhD by completing the course requirements without paying for tuition. After finishing my doctorate, I intend to pursue a career in tech as a data or research scientist.
