Sub-group analysis and cumulative estimates

This post will be an extension to my introductory post on meta-analysis in R. Just to be clear from the start, sub-group analysis (any kind) do have a place in analyzing treatments effects within and between trials, but should never be abused. Especially, if the sub-group analysis was not included in the study protocol and data sampling was not intended to be divided by sub-groups.
