Pay rate for data scientist/content strategist

I've worked at a small tech start-up (based in San Francisco) for the past year. I started as a Data Science Intern ($22/hr), then was promoted to contract Associate Data Scientist ($40/hr). I currently work 30 hrs/week and pay 1099 taxes. I am paid the least (by far) at the whole start-up.
