Self-taught data scientist trapped in a company because they can't compete elsewhere(?)

Looking thoughts about being great in your own company but probably trapped there:

I'm working for a top US oil company. I have a BS and MS in Geology and worked as a geologist for over 10 years, but have since moved towards data science and support the company's 'digital transformation'. My title is now data scientist but I assure you I'm no where near a proper degreeded and experienced data scientist.
