What are anomalies?

Anomalies are data patterns that deviate from the standard or assumpted behaviour from the rest of the data [1]. Given this definition, anomalies are neither terrible nor great things; they’re just anomalies.

Figure 1 illustrates a set of points in a two-dimensional space. There are two main clusters and some anomalies.
