I was talking with a friend about Data Mining (something I am absolutely interested in), and they told me that if I wanted to become a Data Analyst, it's probably not of any use for me.

Is this true? I do want to become a Data Analyst in the future (currently a Stat Major), but loved the idea of Data Mining. Can the two complement each other? I thought Data Miners also do analysis on their data to solve problems …
