What are some popular algorithms used in lidar data processing?

The aim of this post is to create a thread like [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/computervision/comments/7gku4z/technical_interview_questions_in_cv/) but for lidar data. This will be helpful for new comers (like me) and for interviews and getting to know the background of lidar.

I wanted to know what in your opinion are some popular lidar data processing algorithms.

I'll start: ICP - used to align 2 point clouds and figure out its rotation and translation
