What proportion of the total industrial research into statistical ML is focused on developing NN architectures, as opposed to other kinds of statistical models/techniques(SVM, Bayesian stuff etc )[D]?

As a math graduate student interested in working on industrial statistical research but not NN architecture, I’m curious just how much this prunes down my options.
