What software can handle large data, SAS or R?

Data Science www.reddit.com

These are the only 2 software used where I work. I'm proficient in R than SAS but if it will be useful I will try to brush it up. Please suggest if there are any other solutions to make R work faster. Spark is something I'm considering too
