Will employers value my research papers over internships taken?

I’m currently taking my Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, and I was thinking if my time is best spent on working on an internship or writing a research paper if I want to enter the DS field. (Ik competition is tough as a fresh grad, so I want to work on something I can use for my resume).
