Are ML Engineers still SWE or model builders now?

ML Engineers used to be more aligned as a software engineer role since they do much of the backend, devops, deployment work and only need to know enough ML to communicate effectively with data scientists.

Lately I’ve noticed ML Engineer job postings focused primarily on model building skills and no mention of any devops or deployment skills

I also noticed a rise of “Software Engineer, Machine Learning” roles instead of ML Engineer roles
