I recently came across the Harvard Professor's results manipulation case and found it amusing that how can people fake results on such a higher level. Is this something what happen in ML Research as well? I've never been a first author of a ML paper so I don't know how things work at reputed conferences but I don't think someone cross checks the results, but only raise issue if they find it suspicious.
