Portfolio showcase!

What are everyone's thoughts on portfolios? Where do you host your site? Do you do fully managed, or manage it yourself? Do you view just a simple "github/kaggle/datacamp" combo to be sufficient when hiring people? How do I show off a whitepaper I wrote? Are blogs even worth any "style points" anymore, or has that ship-sailed/market-flooded?
