What qualities make a good data science project?

Before you get up in arms, I am not asking for project ideas. I am just trying to get a sense of what makes a good and bad project since I feel I don’t really have a great sense for it. I got into data science indirectly through bioinformatics. As a result, while I have experience in doing data science projects, I feel I don’t have the proper background to answer this basic question.
