Why are DS internships geared towards grad students unlike SWE?

I think it’s the standard that SWE engineer undergrad internships are much more common than DS.

However, could someone direct me towards reasons why that’s the case? Is it because many DS jobs are math/ statistics heavy which requires more courses/ time? Is that true? And what other reasons exist?
