Why are most kernels / convolution masks 3 by 3 in size, or at most 5x5? Couldn’t one have a larger variety of filters if the matrix size is increased to, say, 7×7 or 9×9?

Since kernels are neighborhood operations, wouldn’t a larger matrix size also allow more neighbors of each pixel in an image to be factored in? Wouldn’t that be beneficial?

I have been Googling for a week, and not once have I come across a filter that is larger than 5 by 5.
